#Off_the_record with Binil from India!

Binil is pursuing his medical degree ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš• here at MSIH โ€“ Medical School for International Health at Ben-Gurion University! ๐ŸŽ“
Binil was born in India and then grew up in Morocco ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฆ and Nigeria ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฌ; after that, Binil came back to India for a boarding school, and then studied in St. Louis in the US ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ. Now he studies here in Israel ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ and his family lives in Azerbaijan ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฟ, because of his father’s job in finance.
Now for the fun stuff ๐Ÿ’ƒ
1. Favorite Hebrew word?
Baruch Ha’ba (Welcome)! I like it because you’re getting a blessing as you arrive. I guess welcome has the same meaning but it feels crisper in Hebrew ๐Ÿ™‚
2. Why medicine?
I love learning about the human body and I care about people a lot. because I enjoy understanding how the body works, given my personality, I hope that people will benefit a lot from me being able to take care of them, and give them a knowledgeable perspective so they will understand what’s going on. ๐Ÿ˜‡
3. Why Israel?
The program is in Israel, and the program is really awesome. You do the first 3 years here, and I find Be’er Sheva to be amazing, especially in Soroka Hospital ๐Ÿฅ. Everything is in Hebrew, but patients not always speak Hebrew, a lot speak Russian, Arabic, Amharic and more. I’m learning Hebrew, slowly, because I want to be able to talk with my patients, but these languages โ€“ I’m not gonna be able to learn in 3 years. I want to be able to learn how to interact with people who don’t speak the same language as me and I have to give them good medical care, and from more personal reason โ€“ in my belief, Israel is where Jesus grew up and for me that’s important because I believe in him. It gives me an opportunity to think about my religious believes, my faith. It fits a lot of different boxes โœจ
4. Favorite Be’er Sheva activity?
Rock climbing โ€“ I go to the climbing gym in Be’er Sheva ๐Ÿง—โ€โ™‚

I love learning languages. I speak fluent English, French and Malayalam (Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala). I learned Spanish, I grew up in Morocco so I learned some Arabic, I also learned Hindi in school, here and there I try to learn some Hebrew and Russian
6. If you could have one super power, what would it be?
A lot of people say that when they see me they feel really calm ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™‚, so maybe knowing when to be calm, and when not to be calm, as it can be helpful.
7. What’s your dream job?
Definitely to be a doctor, it’s a long way. When I was little, for a little bit, I thought I wanted to be a farmer, but besides that โ€“ as long as I can remember, I wanted to be a doctor ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•
8. What’s your guilty pleasure?
I watch soccer games โšฝ My favorite team is Arsanal, and the men’s team been having a bad season, but the women’s team is doing amazing. So whenever I tell people I’m gonna go watch an Arsanal game, they think that I’m watching the men’s team โ€“ but I’m watching the women’s ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€
